Lotto Max is a Canadian lottery game coordinated by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation, as one of the country's three national lottery games. Introduced on September 19, 2009, with its first draw occurring on September 25, 2009, the game replaced Lotto Super 7. Canada Lotto Max History. The first Canada Lotto Max draw took place in September 2009 and draws originally took place every Friday. Lotto Max replaced Lotto Super 7, played since June 1994, and offered bigger jackpot prizes and a slightly different format, although players were still required to match seven numbers to win the jackpot.
Canada Lotto Max requires players to match seven numbers from a possible 50 to win the jackpot. A total of eight numbers are drawn, with the final number acting as the Bonus Ball. The Bonus Ball enables players who have matched between three and six main numbers to win bigger prizes. There are nine prize tiers on offer in the game.
Canada Lotto Max has a starting jackpot of CAD $10 million, which rolls over should no player match all seven main numbers drawn. However, there is a jackpot cap of CAD $70 million, which means that the top prize cannot exceed this figure.
If the jackpot reaches CAD $50 million, a game called MAXMILLIONS comes into play. For every million in the jackpot prize pool above CAD $50 million, an extra draw takes place to give away a prize of CAD $1 million. For example, if the jackpot prize pool is CAD $60 million, there will be 10 extra draws, each with a prize of CAD $1 million on offer. This is in addition to the Lotto Max jackpot prize.
Each MAXMILLIONS prize has its own separate draw and also requires players to match seven numbers from a possible 50 to win. Unlike Lotto Max, there are no secondary prizes. MAXMILLIONS prizes that are not won rollover to the next Lotto Max draw, which means that subsequent games can offer a number of CAD $1 million payouts.
MAXMILLIONS continues to be played until the Lotto Max jackpot is won. Once this top prize has been won, any remaining MAXMILLIONS prizes will be added to the base jackpot for the following draw.
