Online craps for real money has a much different feel than the live game. Obviously, no such thing as dice control exists in Internet dice shooting, since the rolls are simulated and results are produced using a random number generator. Other major differences exist. Much of the fun of shooting. Craps online is a game that has always had an air of exclusivity about it and attracted large crowds at land-based casinos. Now, with the introduction of online casinos, craps is more accessible than ever before and is now beginning to get a more mainstream appeal. A very nice feature of craps online for real money is that the minimum bets can be much lower than what you find live. With 4 physical staff members at a live table (the stickman, two dealers and a host), overhead for craps tables is significantly higher. Online casinos offer several varieties of craps games, which make things rather difficult for players. Moreover, a wide range of game providers such as Real Time Gaming (RTG), Betsoft, Playtech.
Nothing gets the adrenalin pumping like a game of Craps in the casino. When the dice are rolling hot the Craps table becomes a hive of activity, with bets flying left and right and shooters enjoying the cheers of their peers. While I loved the buzz – it is easy to find the tables intimidating, there is simply so much action.
Once I started playing online I became more confident and competent at Craps, although I am fully aware some people are as intimidated about the online sites as I was about the Craps table. Here you can find out how I went about picking where I played online. I take you through my process of researching and selecting my sites, including the possible pitfalls you may face and the how to get money on and offline.
Where to Play Real Money Online Craps
Internet casinos are easy to find nowadays. Just searching for a game will normally bring you to a long list of casinos and review sites. Despite this online gambling must appear a somewhat intimidating to those who don’t play. You need to trust these faceless sites with both your personal and banking details. Before getting into Craps and pit games I played some online poker at college, so I guess I was used to evaluating that sort of risk although we’ve all been caught out by well publicized incidents!
When you start playing online casinos you are better off sticking to the well-known brands – all of which spread Craps. I initially stuck to the brands I knew from my poker days, although with so many coming and going in the US it’s hard now to keep track of who is legitimate and who is not, so when you see a new site that catches your interest it is best to do a bit of research.
Choosing an Online Craps Casino
First up I normally see if there are any bonuses or deals that target the game I want to play, in this case Craps, which sadly are few and far between. If I see a great value offer I might take it up if other factors are right, although be sure to check the terms and conditions first to ensure you can still play Craps without jeopardizing the bonus.
Next I look at the banking options, to make sure the site doesn’t rob me of $50 or more just to cash out a couple of hundred. You will benefit here by doing a few searches online to find out what people are saying about the site, if it has problems with slow cash-out times or even accusations of wrong-doings.
Of course this takes some filtering as there are many sore losers out there who believe the sites are rigged. All casino games are run in favor of the house and the vast majority of sites are licensed and strictly audited for fair play. It is unscrupulous operators who have cash flow issues that are the ones to avoid.
Popularity and reputation are important in online gaming. The more popular the site is, the more it shows that the players are happy with how they operate which in turn attracts more players. Because of this I’ve found widely used, reputable names like Bovada, the former Bodog, to be among the best sites.
Software Considerations When Playing Online Craps
As you become more used to online casinos you will start noticing similarities between the software clients. This is because there are several software providers out there, such as Real Time Gaming and BetSoft, who provide their casino games packages to many different sites.
While some casinos offer variations on bets, such as different Odds bets or pay outs on Field bets, most of those using the same software clients run their games the same way. Like the sites themselves popular packages are normally the ones that work the best.
On occasions you can find rare sites like 3Dice who provide their own software and are able to offer better pay outs on certain bets. While this may not be enough by itself to convince you to play there, if the software still looks great, bonuses are available and the site is proven then there’s no reason not to enjoy it.
Avoidable Pitfalls when Playing Real Money Craps
As with any industry where money is involved you will find rogue operators looking to make a quick buck. Again if you follow my earlier advice and spend a short amount of time researching the sites you can normally spot the bad ones.
While sites can turn bad they are far more likely to be showing tell-tale signs a few months in advance and the internet is generally full of people who don’t mind being vocal about their suspicions. Don’t deposit on any site you don’t trust and like any aspect of recreational gambling, do not put any amount onto a site that you are not willing to lose.
Depositing Money on to Online Casinos
Depositing cash on US facing sites does still have some challenges. Due to their interpretation of Federal legislation many banks and credit cards do not permit transactions.
As debit and credit cards are usually the most widely accepted and cheapest methods it is best to try these first, before attempting to use a pre-paid Visa card. If this fails then your site should have other options available, just check the terms to ensure you are not paying large fees just to pay.
Getting Paid your Craps Profits
Probably more importantly check the site to ensure there is a withdrawal method you are happy with. Even if you can get money online with a credit card you may struggle getting your funds back onto it as many companies do not permit it.
If the site offers check payments this is normally a good thing, although check the terms and conditions to avoid some of the huge charges out there. You also need to check that you have enough funds to withdraw or the likelihood of getting to that figure. These vary drastically between free withdrawals for no minimum, to charges over $50 for $500 minimum take out.
The opposite also applies with upper limits on withdrawals, so if you bet big ensure the site’s cap won’t seriously delay you receiving the full amount. You really need to find options that best suit the amount of money you expect to be moving offsite, without paying too much!
Ideally this should all be researched when you choose your site and before you put money online.
Real Money Craps – Why I Enjoy the Online Games
The beauty of playing Craps online is oddly enough the exact opposite to what attracts me to the live game. You can sit comfortably at home with your laptop, take your time and really learn the game. By doing this and a little research I was able to figure out how to take the bets which offer the house the lowest edge. This gives me the best chance of managing my losses while waiting for the hot streak to come along.
It was only when I started looking at the numbers I realized that betting the odds on the pass bet was a completely fair bet – it gave the house no extra edge! This is a rare thing indeed in a casino and a bet I have taking advantage of ever since.
Yes, I agree these low risk bets are not as exciting as getting 30:1 on rolling a Double 6, which actually offers a poor deal by comparison. On my hot days though, they allow me to build a solid profit and then who knows I might feel like sticking a bet one of the Prop bets on, but I’ll be having more fun by using the casinos money when I do it!
Sure, I know hot streaks never last forever and I’m fully aware in the long run it all goes back to the casino. In the meantime I’ve had fun running up a few scores, which have allowed me to enjoy the occasional weekend in Vegas where I can now stand confidently at the Craps tables.
Key Things to remember if you want to Play Online Craps
While it is true the casino will always win, it doesn’t mean you have to make it easy for them or give up your money to a rogue site. Gambling should be fun and not full of this frustration. By spending a few minutes checking the respectable sites through, choosing good software and playing where you can get your money on and off line easily, you can make online Craps an entertaining hobby.
The site I prefer to play at is Bovada.lv who just ticks all the boxes for me. They are a popular site with a long unblemished history in the industry. Deposits are easy and withdrawals are quick and painless. While the site lacks decent bonuses for Craps players you can enjoy the rewards of its Loyalty Program.
With the debut of Michigan online casinos, players have begun seeking out virtual versions of their favorite casino and table games. Playing craps in Michigan just got easier. Many online casinos are focused on slots and card games but are expected to roll out dice games at some point (it’s unclear if sweepstakes casinos will follow suit).
For now, players can play craps at Detroit’s major retail casinos (MGM Grand Detroit, Greektown, and MotorCity), and at several tribal casinos across the state.

Tips For Playing Online Craps Games In Michigan
How to Play
In craps, players bet on the outcome of a roll (or series of rolls) of a pair of dice. Players can bet against each other or a bank and can win according to the rules of several different kinds of rolls.
Basic Craps Rolls and Bets
Come Out Roll: The first roll of craps. Players place bets on the table as to whether or not the shooter’s roll will result in:
Numbers | Bet Name | Outcome |
---|---|---|
7 or 11 | Pass Line | Players win |
2, 3, or 12 | Craps | Players lose, game ends |
Any other number | Don’t Pass Line | Game enters the “Points” phase |
Points Phase
If the game enters the Points phase, the dealer places a puck on the table over the number that initiated the Points phase. The shooter rolls the dice again.
If a 7 is rolled, Pass line bettors lose and Don’t Pass bettors win.
If the Point number is rolled, Pass Line bettors win and Don’t Pass Line bettors lose.
Basic Craps Odds
Below are the odds for basic craps bets. Odds can vary by casino, so refer to your venue’s specific odds before playing.
Craps Bet | Odds | House Edge |
---|---|---|
Pass / Come Bet | 1:1 | 1.41% |
Don’t Pass / Don’t Come | 1:1 | 1.36% |
Pass Odds / Come Odds | 2:1 on 4, 10; 3:2 on 5, 9; 6:5 on 6, 8 | 0% |
Don’t Pass Odds / Don’t Come Odds | 1:2 against 4, 10; 2:3 against 5, 9; 5:6 against 6, 8 | 0% |
Prop Bets
Proposition Bets (or “Prop Bets”) are a group of single roll bets that are clustered together on the craps table. Due to a very high house edge, these should only be played occasionally, and with low wagers.
Prop Bet Name | Roll | Payout |
---|---|---|
Three (Ace Deuce) | 3 | 15 to 1 |
Any 7 (Big Red) | 7 | 4 to 1 |
Any Craps (Three Way) | 2, 3, or 12 | 7 to 1 for each number |
Two Craps or Aces (Snake Eyes) | 2 | 30 to 1 |
Twelve Craps (Boxcars or Midnight) | 12 | 30 to 1 |
Eleven (Yo) | 11 | 15 to 1 |
Additional Prop Bets
Craps And Eleven (C&E)
Location On Craps Table: Sometimes found on the side of the proposition bets boxes, 16 circles marked with C&E represent the 16 players at the craps table.
How To Play: This bet adds the Eleven to the Any Craps bet, meaning the player wins if an eleven or any of the craps numbers are rolled.
Payout: 7:1 if Any Craps numbers 12, 3, or 2 are rolled. 15:1 if 11 is rolled.
House Edge: 11.11%
Note: Because 50% of the bet is on each (Any Craps and Eleven), the player will lose half the original bet because one will always lose out.
Horn (2, 3, 11, or 12)
Location On Craps Table: Middle, with the Proposition Bets
How To Play: Player wagers on either the 2, 3, 11, or 12 being rolled on the next roll of the dice. Wagers are split evenly between each number (i.e. $12 is divided as $3 on each number).
Payout: If one of the numbers is rolled, the 2 and 12 pay 30 to 1; 3 and 11 pay 15 to 1.
Note: Differs from the C&E bet. Horn Bet numbers all have distinct payouts, while Any Craps Bet numbers have a combined payout of 7:1.
Horn High Bets
Location On Craps Table: Middle, with the Proposition Bets
How To Play: Double your bet on one of the Horn Bet numbers by making one of the Horn numbers a “Horn High” number. When placing bets in multiples of $5, you can designate one unit for each number, and an extra unit for one of them.
Example: Place a “Horn High” on 11. $2 will be placed on the 11, and $1 each on the 2, 3, and 12.
Payout: If the 11 is rolled, the payout is double, minus the $3 of the losing bets.
Real Online Blackjack
Note: The player must indicate which number is the desired high number when placing the Horn Bet. If one of the other numbers is rolled, and not the “High Horn” number, the player is paid the single payout, minus $4.
World Or Whirl Bet
Location On Craps Table: N/A
How To Play: This bet is playable even though it doesn’t actually appear on the craps table. This combination of the Horn and Any Seven Bet comprise five individual bets, made in multiples of $5. If the shooter rolls a 7 (for example), that bet wins and the other four lose.
Payout: Payout for the 7 is 4:1 and the other numbers are the same as the Horn Bet.
Online Craps Strategy
Though online craps have not been rolled out at Michigan’s online casinos, it is expected that the virtual betting systems will be similar to current in-person betting systems.
Live Dealer Craps Games At Legal Online Casinos
Live dealer games provide the thrill of in-person table games with the convenience of online play–with a key difference: a live dealer oversees a real game with traditional rules in an actual casino environment. Players participate virtually via livestream technology.
Similar to online craps, Michigan casinos have yet to offer live dealer craps in their virtual casino apps. It’s a safe bet that craps (and other dice games) will join the ranks of poker, blackjack, and baccarat at popular online casinos like BetRivers, BetMGM, and Golden Nugget. The only question is, “When?”
Craps Bonuses In Michigan
Until craps games debut in Michigan online casinos, it’s hard to know what kinds of bonuses and promotions players can expect. Ahead of the recent launch of gambling apps in Michigan, several online casinos advertised substantial bonus offers for signing up, so look for more incentives when craps are rolled out.
How To Play Sweepstakes Craps Online In Michigan
Sweepstakes casinos give players a chance to play online sweepstakes games for real money. From slots to table games, there are a host of online games that function like mini-sweepstakes contests.
Currently, however, the country’s top sweepstakes casinos (Chumba Casino, LuckyLand Slots, and Funzpoints) don’t offer online craps games.
Playing Craps At Live Casinos In Michigan
Though craps have yet to make a splash in Michigan’s online gaming space, players have several options when it comes to live casino experiences. There are dozens of retail and tribal casinos throughout the state, including popular venues such as Firekeepers Casino Hotel, MotorCity Casino Hotel, and Four Winds New Buffalo.
Many of these casinos offer destination-worthy luxury in a variety of settings, from rustic getaways to Vegas-style glamour. One thing they have in common, though, is a world-class selection of games, from slots to cards to roulette (and, yes, craps).

Playing Legal Craps Online In Michigan
Once Michigan online casinos begin to offer virtual craps and other dice games, players may wonder if it’s safe to actually bet on them. Because the state legislature requires a partnership between a licensed physical casino and an online casino provider in order to be approved, Michigan residents can rest assured that their play is as secure as any other institution with which they engage in electronic transactions (banking, retail stores, etc.).
When registering for an online casino app, players should verify that they are signing up for a recognizable casino (such as Firekeepers, MGM, or Rivers), and carefully review the terms of service. This will ensure that their gambling is protected by Michigan law and that they are transacting with a reputable casino.
Players should avoid suspicious, illegal, or offshore sites whose security is often lax–or, worse, designed to take advantage of unsuspecting players’ data and banking information.
Craps In Michigan FAQ
Yes. In January 2021, the Michigan Gaming Control Board approved several online casino and sports betting apps, which were signed into law by Governor Gretchen Whitmer in 2019. Though many of these apps do not yet offer craps, the game will be legal to play once they do.

Online craps tend to observe the same rules as in-person games. Because the odds for craps games vary greatly due to the variety of bets a player can make, it’s difficult to define a standard RTP (Return to Player). Here are some quick guidelines regarding bets and their typical house edge.
Online Craps Real Money
Pass/Don’t Pass odds have no house edge.
Basic bets have a relatively low house edge, including Pass Line (98.59% RTP), Don’t Pass (98.64% RTP), Come (98.59% RTP), and Don’t Come (98.64% RTP).
Craps Game Free Online
Some additional single- and multi-roll bets have a higher house edge than basic bets. Despite offering solid payouts in many cases, playing these will diminish the game’s overall RTP.
Not yet. Once Michigan online gaming apps offer craps, players will be able to place real money bets on their mobile devices–similar to the way they can play casino and table games now.
Yes. In anticipation of legalized online gaming, several of Michigan’s casinos joined with online casino partners to offer safe, virtual versions of players’ favorite games, including craps. Refer to our complete guide to Michigan online casinos for a list of trusted partners.
