The original Massachusetts Lotto required players to pick six numbers from 49. However, it was canceled after 13 weeks for failing to provide big jackpots. The MA lottery further launched the first instant lottery tickets in 1974 offering an instant top prize of $10,000. Draw Date: Numbers: 20288: Saturday, February 6 M: 6: 1: 2: 5; 20287: Saturday, February 6 E. On September 27, 1971, the Massachusetts Lottery was established, following the legalization of gambling by the Massachusetts General Court. The first Massachusetts Lottery tickets went on sale in April of 1972.
